PJRC Teensy 4.1 Development Board

Introducing the latest version of the highly sought-after development platform, the PJRC Teensy 4.1 Development Board boasts a powerful ARM Cortex-M7 processor clocked at 600MHz and an NXP iMXRT1062 chip. With a four times larger flash memory than its predecessor, it also offers two additional slots for optional memory expansion. Keeping its slim dimensions of 2.4in by 0.7in, it now features enhanced I/O capabilities such as an ethernet PHY, SD card socket, and USB host port.

At a clock speed of 600 MHz, the PJRC Teensy 4.1 Development Board consumes around 100mA and supports dynamic clock scaling. Unlike traditional microcontrollers, this device allows for changing the clock speed without experiencing issues such as incorrect baud rates. This is thanks to the hardware of the Teensy 4.1 and the software support from Teensyduino’s Arduino timing functions. This includes serial baud rates, audio streaming sample rates, and common Arduino functions like delay() and millis(). The extended features of Teensyduino, such as IntervalTimer and elapsedMillis, also continue to function properly while the CPU changes speed. Additionally, the PJRC Teensy 4.1 Development Board offers a convenient power shut off feature by simply connecting a pushbutton to the On/Off pin. Holding down the button for five seconds will completely disable the 3.3V power supply, which can be easily turned back on with a quick button press. Even if a coin cell is connected to VBAT, the RTC on PJRC Teensy 4.1 Development Board will continue to accurately track date and time while power is off. And if that wasn’t enough, this device can even be safely overclocked well beyond its default 600MHz!

The Cortex-M7 processor on the Teensy 4.1 features an FPU that supports both 64-bit and 32-bit floating-point operations. In comparison, the M4’s FPU on the Teensy 3.5 & 3.6, as well as Atmel SAMD51 chips, only accelerates 32-bit floats. This means any use of double or double functions like log(), sin(), or cos() will result in slower software-based calculations. However, with the Teensy 4.1, all of these functions are executed using its efficient FPU hardware.

Characteristics of PJRC Teensy 4.1 Development Board:

  • The DP83825 PHY with a 10/100 Mbit speed is available in a compact 6-pin design.
