Description

ADS1115 16-Bit ADC Module

The ADS1115 16-Bit ADC Module is commonly utilized in microcontroller projects that require an analog-to-digital converter with enhanced accuracy. It offers 16-bit precision at a rate of 860 samples per second via I2C communication. This versatile chip can function as either four single-ended input channels or two differential channels, depending on your needs.

Furthermore, the ADC boasts a programmable gain amplifier with the capability of multiplying signals by up to x16. This feature is useful for amplifying weaker single or differential signals to their maximum potential. The versatility of this ADC is impressive, as it can operate on power/logic ranging from 2V to 5V and has the ability to measure a wide range of signals. Notably, its user-friendliness adds to its appeal, making it an excellent choice for a general-purpose 16-bit converter.

The compact ADS1115 chip is accompanied by a breakout board containing ferrites, ensuring that the AVDD and AGND remain free from disturbances. Its interface employs I2C communication. By consulting table 5 in the datasheet, users have the option to alter its address among four possibilities. This enables up to four ADS1115 chips to be linked on a single 2-wire I2C bus, providing access to 16 single-end inputs.

To begin, we offer sample code for both the Raspberry Pi (found in our Adafruit Pi Python library) and Arduino (available in our ADS1X15 Arduino library repository). Just make sure to connect GND to ground, VDD to your logic power supply, and SCL/SDA to your microcontroller’s I2C port. Then, you can run the provided example code to start retrieving data.
