L298N L298P Motor Drive Shield Module
The L298N L298P Motor Drive Shield Module, functioning as a dual full-bridge driver specifically intended for powering inductive loads such as relays, solenoids, and both DC and stepping motors.
With this functionality, your board can effectively operate two DC motors by simultaneously managing their speed and direction individually.
Additionally, the motor current absorption for each individual motor can be determined, along with various other features.
The L298N L298P Motor Drive Shield Module is TinkerKit compatible, allowing you to easily assemble projects by plugging modules into the board.
With its free running stop and brake function, this feature is commonly utilized for both car and stepping motor driving.
To operate the L298N L298P Motor Drive Shield Module, an external power supply is necessary. This is due to the fact that the shield contains the L298 IC, which has two distinct power connections – one for the logic and one for the motor driver. It should be noted that the maximum current rating for USB is often surpassed by the needed motor current.
Power from an external source, other than USB, can be obtained through an AC-to-DC adapter or a battery. To connect the adapter, simply plug a 2.1mm center-positive plug into the power socket on the motor shield or attach the wires from the power supply to the Vin and GND screw terminals while paying attention to polarities.
In order to prevent harm to the mounting board, it is advised to utilize an external power source with a voltage range of 7V to 12V when using the shield. If your motor requires more than 9V, we suggest separating the power lines between the shield and its mounting board by cutting the “Vin Connect” jumper on the back of the shield. Please note that 18V is the maximum limit for Vin at the screw terminals.
Power pins are as follows:
- On the screw terminal block, Vin represents the motor’s input voltage.
- The board on which it is mounted is also powered by an external power supply connected to this pin.
- Cutting the Vin Connect jumper makes this a dedicated power line for the motor.
- It can supply 2 amps per channel, for a maximum of 4 amps.
