Stainless Steel 1m Conductive Thread Wire
Maximize your clothing’s functionality with the Stainless Steel 1m Conductive Thread Wire. By seamlessly connecting electronics to your attire, this innovative thread serves as both a power and signal transmitter. Though it may not match the conductivity of a printed circuit board (PCB), it certainly makes wearable items truly “wearable”.
Constructed from stainless steel 1m Conductive Thread Wire, this 2-ply thread boasts high tarnish resistance. It is also compatible with certain sewing machines due to its smaller size. With a resistance of approximately 6 Ohms per foot and weighing in at 0.15g per foot, this conductive thread offers great durability. Each spool contains about 360 yards of this unique thread spun from stainless steel fiber. Get creative and use it as an innovative means of connecting electronics to clothing projects.
The sizable spool offers an affordable entry point to wearable electronics and a sufficient amount to freely experiment without hesitation. What distinguishes this thread from our other conductive options is its use of spun stainless steel fibers rather than plated silver and lack of a Nylon core.
Due to its stainless composition, soldering onto this thread may not be a simple task. However, on the bright side, it is also resistant to burning when in contact with a soldering iron. Additionally, its slightly coarse texture may pose challenges for working in tight and delicate areas compared to other threads. Our E-Textiles specialist recommends using wax while hand sewing to alleviate any issues with the “hairiness” of the thread.
As waxing is not feasible for machine sewing, it is advisable to refrain from creating tight connections using a machine. This could cause the “hairs” to possibly short circuit over small distances.
